No stranger to the Golden Belt Community Concert Association, Jim Witter is back to perform “Timeless Hits of Billy Joel” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone. The event is for Golden Belt Community Concert members.
As with all of his concerts, Witter’s performance will be enhanced by multimedia, offering glimpses into famous highlights of Billy Joel’s career. Witter’s sidemen will add color, rhythm, vocals and fun to the show. This first concert of the 2024-2025 season will be Witter’s fourth appearance on the GBCCA stage.
A renowned musician and entertainer for more than 30 years, Witter has been sharing his own original music or paying tribute to his favorite musicians also including The Beatles, Barry Manilow, and beloved musical duos in a show titled “Brothers.”
His first performance here was in the association’s 2010-2011 season when he presented “The Piano Men,” singing songs of both Billy Joel and Elton John. Since then, his concerts have included “Feelin’ Groovy,” featuring the music of Simon and Garfunkel in 2012-2013, and “Crocodile Rockin’,” a tribute to Elton John, in 2021-2022.
GBCCA members are in for a real treat with another one of Witter’s superb concerts. This GBCCA event is open to association members. No single concert tickets are available. Because the association encourages young people’s interest in music and the performing arts, full-time students will be admitted for a $5 donation at the door.
Good news for concert members: The Golden Belt Community Concert Association and the Great Bend Recreation Commission will be providing eight handicap parking spaces in front of the northeast entrance of the auditorium for every concert. Blue cones, placed at the curb before each space, will designate handicap-only parking.
Transportation to the concerts will again be provided for members in the Hoisington area who do not feel comfortable driving at night. Sunflower Diversified Services’ Catch-a-Ride will pick up the members from the parking lot of Hoisington’s Friendship House, 410 E. Third St., at 6:10 p.m. on the night of each concert. Members must sign up for the ride at Friendship House or call 620-653-2555.
