Greetings from the Great Bend Public Library! This week is about teens. We have tons of teen events for all kinds of interests. Starting off today, we are having a Monster Movie Day at the library. There will be monster movies shown at 11:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. During the movie, teens can decorate their own monster cookies. To find out what movies will be showing check out our website greatbendpl.info. Monday will be a day of topsy turvy fun as teens compete to create the best worst art at our bad art event. Teens can compete solo or in teams but the objective is the same to create some truly awful works of art.
Then Tuesday join us in the Teen Spot for October’s Teen Tuesday. Come hang out and have fun with other teens doing crafts, games, and more. Registration for this event is required and you can do so by using the Remind code @gbteentues to reserve your spot. Remind is a great resource to keep up to date with all the teen events we have. If you would like to get reminders and be notified about events you can join our Remind with code @teenspot. Enter the codes in the Remind app or text them to 81010 (standard messaging rates apply) to join.
Thursday we are celebrating early release from school with another movie day. This time we are going with something a little spooky to celebrate the season. This movie will be at 1:30 p.m. and you can find out just what we will be showing by checking out our website. Speaking of getting into the spooky mood, Friday will be our Day O’ Spooks party starting at 2:30 p.m. Everyone will have some spooky fun watching a movie and making their own frankentoy creations. As long as local health conditions permit we will also have face painting!
For adults this week we have our open book club Tuesday. This month’s book is “The Library of the Unwritten” by A.J. Hackwith. Copies are still available at the front desk if you are looking for a good weekend read. Join in on the discussion Tuesday.
This coming Thursday the 21st will be our first meeting of the Great Bend Silver Screen Society film club. This is a new club at the Great Bend Public Library that will focus on film and film discussion. If you love the art of filmmaking, films as art, talking about films, or if you’re just a big fan of popcorn, this is the club for you! Each month we will watch a different film and then have a discussion. If you would like to see what we will be showing this month you can check our website.
And last but certainly not least we have our annual Friends of the Library Books Sale starting today and running through Monday the 17th. Today will be for friends members and this year we will have an early bird special for those who would like to pay 5 dollars and get early access. This will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Then Saturday we will be open to the general public from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday will be from 1-5 p.m. and will be half-priced. We will close out the sale Monday with a donation day from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. If you like great bargains on great books be sure to swing by the sale, it only comes but once after all.
