In order to unify and simplify how City of Great Bend departments are identified, the City Council approved a new city logo when it met Monday night.
Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes has been working for a number of months to find a new city logo that is both updated and simplified. She presented them to the council.
“Howard and I have looked at many, many logos,” Hayes said of the work done by her and City Administrator Howard Partington. They studied graphics from several cities.
Featuring block lettering in gold, this is a new, simplified logo for all city uses. Hayes said the city is just trying to get where all departments use same design again, adding the Police Department still uses an even older logo and the Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau has the feather logo.
Now, this will be one unified design which will be put on everything. “This is a very interchangeable logo,” Hayes said.
The logo features the words “The City of Great Bend” resting over a flowing river. The plan is to put the different departments under the river on the left side, for example: City Of Great Bend Public Works, Public Lands and Police Department.
It will be emblazoned on ever thing from police badges to city trucks.
The idea for a change was born during the City Council’s budget work session last summer.
Although the new logo is official, it will take some time for it to be fully implemented, Hayes said.
