Great Bend Mayor Cody Schmidt, left, presents a clock to retiring Police Chief David Bailey during the City Council meeting Monday night. The council recognized Bailey who is retiring after 46 years of service to the city. His last day was Friday. Bailey was appointed to the position by the city council in December 2017 following the resignation of previous chief Clifton Couch. Prior to his appointment, he had been employed as a lieutenant in the GBPD, and had been with the department for almost 40 years. At the Dec. 7 meeting, Steven Haulmark was introduced as the new chief. He comes to Great Bend from Kansas City, Kan.
