Now is the time for registered voters in Barton County to apply for advanced ballots for the Nov. 6 general election, said County Clerk Donna Zimmerman, who also serves as the county election officer.
She provided the following voting guidelines:
• Any registered voter who has declared a party may contact Zimmerman’s office on the second floor of the Barton County Courthouse by mail, phone or in person for an application for an advanced voting ballot. Anyone requesting an advanced ballot must provide photo ID.
• If voting by mail, a voter will need to include their drivers license number on their application, Zimmerman said.
• Applications may also be downloaded from the County Clerk’s website at www.bartoncounty.org/elections/advancevote.
• Signed applications may be delivered or mailed to the County Clerk’s Office or faxed to 620-793-1990. Upon receipt of a completed and signed application, Zimmerman’s office will provide the elector with an advanced ballot for the general election.
• An elector cannot apply for a ballot for another voter.
• Voters can cast their ballots in the Barton County Clerk’s Office until noon on the day preceding the election.
• An application for an advanced ballot for someone who is sick/disabled/illiterate may be filed during the regular advanced ballot application period until the close of polls on the day of the election, she said. All advanced ballots must be delivered to the Zimmerman’s office before the close of the polls on election day.
Affidavits of Assistance forms are available to assist another elector in the application and voting processes.
• A registered voter no longer has to be “sick or disabled” or “out of the county” on the day of the election in order to vote in advance of the election.
Ballots will not be counted until election day.
