Sunflower Diversified Services raised $950 for people with special needs at its recent poker tournament where Ben Niethamer of Great Bend won the first prize of $1,000.

"All the poker players can be assured they have helped the people served by our non-profit agency," said Connie Oetken, Sunflower director of development. "All proceeds will stay here to help our neighbors with developmental disabilities."

Marvin Koch of Ellinwood won $300 for second place, and Jim Morton of WaKeeney took third for $150. Other cash prizes went to Bill Stiawalt of Ness City, $75; Ken Grabast of Hudson, $50; Dylan Cooley of Great Bend, $40; Roxanne Sexton of Albert, $30; and Annette Nienstedt of Marion, $25.

"We appreciate all the players, the volunteers who ran the tournament and the Highland Hotel," Oetken said.

Sunflower serves babies, toddlers and adults with developmental disabilities in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties.
