Kansas community colleges aren’t expected to increase their tuition or basic fees this year, according to Mark Dean, vice president of administration at Barton Community College. The BCC Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to hold the line on tuition and fees for 2021-22.
The in-county rate is $111 ($67 tuition and $44 fees) per credit-hour. Other in-state students pay $118, out-of-state students pay $142 and international students pay $205.
Online courses through BartOnline and EduKan are $150. The college also offers courses to military troops at Fort Riley, Fort Leavenworth and Barton’s Grandview Plaza campus for $130 per credit.
Less state aid
Dean also commented on Excel in CTE, commonly known as Senate Bill 155, which pays the tuition for high school students enrolled in college-level Career & Technical Education courses. The latest payment from the state was not sufficient to cover the college’s costs, Dean said. “It was about 18% less than what we should have received,” he said. “We’ll have to look at that going forward.”
