Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of SE 40 Ave (Airport Road) and 4th Street west of Great Bend, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
Based on evidence at the scene, a 1993 Mack truck driven by Thomas G. Bussier, age 61, of Sawyer was southbound on SE 40 Ave. A 2006 Ford Fusion driven by Robin L. Armstrong, 57, of Ellinwood was eastbound on 4th Street, Bellendir said.
“Initial investigation indicates Armstrong failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign and was struck in the driver’s door by the truck.”
After impact, both vehicles moved in a southwesterly direction into the west ditch.
Armstrong was pronounced deceased at the scene by Barton County coroner Dr. E.L. Jones. Bussier was not injured.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by units of the Great Bend Fire Department, Great Bend Emergency Medical Services and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
