Boxes of Love were delivered on Valentine’s Day to 300 homebound seniors across Barton and Pawnee counties.

United Way of Central Kansas Executive Director Charell Owings mentioned some of the sponsors and their gifts. Thanks to the presenting sponsors at Cuna Mutual Group, each box was filled with items ranging from a toothbrush, toothpaste and lotion, to a keychain flashlight and a jar opener to give them something functional. Sponsorship from Midwest Energy & Thrivent Financial Services provided stamps in each box so they can stay in touch with loved ones. Fuller Industries LLC provided a cleaning brush for each box that will no doubt be put to good use and OPI donated a full-size chocolate bar to make sure they got a little something sweet. Daycare centers, youth organizations and individuals across the area made more than 1,000 Valentine’s Day cards that were distributed in each box to show the recipients that they are still cared about and remembered.

“We love to see the smiles on the faces of those that receive these boxes,” Owings said. “Through this project we hope to remind people to reach out to those around us who may not have anyone close in their lives. A simple act of kindness goes a long way.”
