Arctic air will move south across Kansas this weekend, and this will bring in the coldest temperatures of the season by far. The widespread snow pack will not help in the air mass modification from up north, so we continue to adjust temperature and wind chill forecasts down as confidence in anomalously cold air and wind chills increase, warned the National Weather Service out of Dodge City.
Please be prepared for multiple days of brutally cold air.
Sunday and Monday morning will continue to see extremely cold wind chills as the arctic air continues to control the region. Dress in layer and limit outdoor activity to reduce the likelihood of hypothermia.
Subzero air temperatures will be common at night, with the coldest day expected to be Sunday. Highs in the low single digits for many areas in northern and central Kansas are predicted.
Residents of central, south central, and southwest Kansas are urged to prepare homes, automobiles, pets and livestock for a long stretch of dangerously cold air, Friday through Monday.
