Smithsonian Kindergarten class activity

Ellinwood High School was the place to be this past Sunday! Many people came out to enjoy dinner sponsored by the EHS band, and then ventured on over to the library to see the Smithsonian Exhibit. Dr. Michael Zogry, from Kansas University was our featured speaker. His topic was “Faith and Basketball”, and he discussed Dr. James Naismith’s connection with basketball and religion.
This week, Kindergarten through sixth Ellinwood Grade School students have the privilege of attending a presentation and tour of the Smithsonian Exhibit from Sharon Sturgis. Students are walking to our school/community library during their regularly scheduled library time to see the display. Raegan Moore, 6th grader, commented, “It was good to see the Smithsonian Exhibit! It was interesting, because it had facts about sports from 100 years ago compared to now.”
We would also like to thank Mr. Ben Jacobs who took time out of his day to assist Mrs. Sturgis in an activity with our Kindergarten class.
Our next Smithsonian related event will be Kansas Hall of Fame Director, Jordan Poland, speaking about, “The Common and Quirky Mascots of Kansas” at the Ellinwood School/Community Library, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 22nd.
Sheri Holmes, Director of Library/Media Services Ellinwood School/Community Libraries
