City looks at waste oil storage; Commission talks economic development

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.


The City Council

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes: Transportation letters of support for Sunflower Diversified Services, Rosewood Services and the Commission on Aging; an unsafe and dangerous structure determination for a structure at 2555 19th St.; and a request from Venture Corporation to build waste oil storage tanks at the Great Bend Transload Facility.


The County Commission

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes: Offering American Rescue Plan Act funds to Rural Water District No. 1, Ellsworth County; a letter of support for Rosewood Service to apply for a Kansas Department of Transportation grant; county support for Great Bend Economic Development Inc.; a Drug Free Communities Grant for 20th Judicial District Juvenile Services; and a thermal camera for the Barton County Solid Waste Landfill.

• 11:15 a.m. – Program Update – Mick Lang, Memorial Parks Advisory Board.

• 11:30 a.m. – dredge repair – Darren Williams, county works director.

• 1 p.m. – courthouse heating and a/c replacement – Orazem & Scalora Engineering, PA and Phil Hathcock, facilities director.

• 1:30 p.m. – courthouse heating and a/c replacement – WDM Architects and Hathcock. 

• 2 p.m. – final Redwing project cost approval – Barry McManaman, county engineer. 

• 2:15 p.m. – regular business discussion – Barry McManaman, interim county administrator, and Donna Zimmerman, county clerk.
