Commission to mark Colon Cancer Awareness Month

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be live-streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes a Colon Cancer Awareness proclamation, a Severe Weather Preparedness Week proclamation, the temporary countywide burn ban, a valuation update and amendments to the employee handbook.

Following the agenda meeting, the commission will meet as the Board of Health. Karen Winkelman, Public Health Director, will introduce Health Department Advisory Committee members and give a COVID-19 update.

After that, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 10:15 a.m. – Active 911 and equipment report with Dena Popp, 911 director.

• 10:45 a.m. – industrial revenue bonds/economic development annual review for Kan-Can (Red Barn) with Matt Patzner, director of operations; Bev Schmeidler, county clerk; Jim Jordan, county treasurer, and Wendy Prosser, county appraiser.  

• 11:15 a.m. – invitation to the Pawnee County Leadership Meeting, Larned State Hospital with Bob Rein, Pawnee County commissioner.

• 1:15 p.m. – Program overview – Debbie Trahan, Computer Information Concepts, Inc. (CIC).

• 2:15 p.m. – grant update with Sue Cooper, grants and compliance manager, and Barry McManaman, county engineer.  

• 2:30 p.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, director of operations.
