Commission talks railroad crossing improvements, council eyes police station site

The Barton County Commission and the Great Bend City Council both meet Monday, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes: Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad Company, Kansas Department of Transportation and Barton County agreements for railroad crossing improvements on SW 40 Avenue (Airport Road); a Road and Bridge Department request for proposal for a sewer line replacement; and continued budget discussions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the Great Bend Events Center, 3111 10th St. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/. The meeting will be recorded.  The agenda includes proceeding with plans for a new police station at 12th and Baker, the city’s 2020 audit report and the evaluation of City Administrator Kendal Francis.
