Council talks police/fire pensions; Commission looks at rezoning

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Tuesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes the pension plans for the Police and Fire departments, a master fee schedule, and the purchase of a skid loader and backhoe for the Water Department.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes a review of the burn ban, rezoning and conditional-use permit requests from Larry and Sheree Marshall (Marshall Towing), renewal of the Active 911 subscription, donation of UHF repeaters to the cities of Claflin and Ellinwood, the noxious weed eradication progress report and management plan and an executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

Following the agenda meeting, appointments include:

• 10:30 a.m. – bid for diesel fuel with Darren Williams, county works director. 

• 10:45 a.m. – program update with Sara Hayden, president of Great Bend Economic Development Inc.

• 11:15 a.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, director of operations. 

• 1:15 p.m. – program update with Mark Hinde, president/CEO, of Southwest Developmental Services Inc.

• 2:15 p.m. – employee benefits with Amy Boxberger, Central Kansas Community Corrections director.
