Citizens in the Golden Belt continue to dig out from the blizzard that hit most of Kansas Monday and now they must prepare for another winter weather outbreak that brings more dangerous conditions.
Another weather system moves in this afternoon with chances of snow fall Thursday evening, Friday morning, and again on Sunday. Extremely cold temperatures settle across the region with windchills expected in double digits below zero. Temperatures and windchills are expected to remain dangerously low until Tuesday.
From the National Weather Service in Dodge City and Wichita:
Another round of light snow is expected this evening into the overnight hours. The highest snow accumulation is expected to remain along & north of Interstate 70. In addition, the first push of Arctic air arrives tonight with wind chill values below zero.
A prolonged period of dangerously cold temperatures arrive tonight and continue through at least Tuesday.
National Weather Service advises caution during extreme cold:
With the arctic air on the way and forecast wind chills getting as low as -30 keep in mind that frostbite on exposed skin can happen in as quickly as 10 minutes. If you have to be outside make sure to layer up and keep your extremities warm.
A second round of light snow is expected late Saturday night through early Monday morning. The greatest chances reside across southern Kansas.
