RUSSELL — The Deines Cultural Center’s next art exhibition was scheduled to open Sunday, April 19. However, the center’s galleries are closed for the time being. Therefore, with help from the artists, the Deines Center has put together a virtual exhibition.

Sixteen mixed media artists from Hays and the surrounding areas have photographed their art and it is available to see on the Deines Cultural Center website: https://deinesculturalcenter.org/index.html now through May 15.

Featured artists are: Linda Bittel, Secily Cruse, Beth DeMont, Mary Kottmann, Kathleen Kuchar, Terrri MacDonald, Cal Mahin, Rebel Mahieu, Valerie Mills, Angela Muller, Von Pounds, Kari Schultz, Bev Simonson, Barbara Stevens and Peggy Wambold.

The Society of Layerists in Multi Media exhibit includes two parts, “Hidden Stories” and the SLMM Mask Project.

Larned artist Von Pounds writes, “My collection of work for ‘Hidden Stories’ is about the effects (of) the COVID pandemic on our general lives and me personally. Sacrifice - of togetherness through social distancing, Heroes - faceless health-care workers that will get us through this, and Faith and Hope - we will return to the beauty of the world waiting at the other end of this craziness.” Pounds also created a piece for the project that features masks.

The Deines Cultural Center is located in Russell. Email the Deines at Deinescenter@russellcity.org for more information
