GBHS students gain leadership training at KAY conference

CLEARWATER — Ten members of the Great Bend High School Kays and 17 Kayettes attended the Area 6 KAY Regional Conference on Nov. 5 at Clearwater High School. The clubs returned with the highest state award possible. The Kays and Kayettes each received the Gold Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2013-2014 school year.
The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas.
Great Bend was well represented by some outstanding young leaders from our high school. Attending the conference were: Tasha Bieker, Heather Schneider, Bethany Reiser, Morgan Kottas, Kaylan Lagerman, Taryn Morgan, Hadley Murphy, Riley Jones, Taylor Hofeling, Abby Rose, Makayla Lofland, Abby Stiner, Katy Jerke, Kaylynn Blessing, Malia Clark, Shay Brown, Baleigh Fry, Adam Jacobs, Cole Mulch, Anson Hall, Walter Helms, Jose Batres, Christian Rivas, Marcos Martinez, Aaron Clark, Nick Gerdes, Caleb Maneth.
Accompanying the group were Tina Hiss, KAY sponsor, and Connie Claussen and Jessica Nairn, Kayette sponsors.
