The new chief executive officer of the eduKan Consortium, Dr. Adam K. John, brings years of experience in higher education.
Dr. John was appointed on June 1, following an extensive search, said Dr. Mike Calvert, Pratt Community College president and chairman of the eduKan President’s Board. EduKan provides online classes to a consortium of six community colleges, including Barton Community College. John’s office is located in Great Bend.
“After an extensive search, the board unanimously selected Dr. John, who is very passionate about helping students achieve their goals through access to a quality education while keeping costs down and supporting our goal for eduKan to be an innovative player in higher education,” Calvert said. “Dr. John has hit the ground running and is making great strides since he started June 1st.”
He will provide leadership for all online instruction, student learning and support areas, in addition to serving as an integral member of the executive team.  He will continue to advance eduKan’s award-winning, online learning platform by developing and implementing new, interactive programs using cost-effective tools to support the thousands of students enrolled in distance education from the six member colleges, Calvert said.
Most recently, John has been an administrator in higher education and serving as the vice president of a non-profit college system in Overland Park. His experience includes educational operations that include in-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations, fiscal responsibility, accreditation compliance, development of innovative educational systems be it online or hybrid. Additional prior professional expertise includes campus director working with students for a positive campus experience, and increasing enrollments with a positive communication program and partnership with students, faculty and staff.
John is also well versed in learning management systems, video lecture tools, mobile applications and technologies, Google Apps and TK20 for measuring student satisfaction and outcomes.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education Leadership from Capella University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Utah and an Associate of Science in Social Science from Salt Lake Community College.
“I’ve always been passionate about education,” John said. “I’m hoping to use my experience in building life changing programs at other colleges and universities and apply it to eduKan. Online education has its own challenges and understanding the diverse needs of digital students will continue to drive the development of engaging, interactive programs so each student can achieve their personal goals.”
