Dr. John Palsmeier, the son of Ted and Lillian Palsmeier of Conway Springs and the grandson of Betty Mae Axman of Olmitz, began working at NuScale Power in Corvallis, Ore. on October 13, as a nuclear probabilistic risk assessment analyst. NuScale is developing a new reactor design emphasizing significant advances in safety and John is part of the group which evaluates the ability of the reactor to withstand accidents which exceed design specifications.
John graduated summa cum laude from Benedictine College with a B.S. in Physics in 2006. He received his M.S. in 2008 and Ph.D. in 2012, both in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia. For his doctorate he conducted research on the modeling and simulation of aerosol and molecular gas dynamics with applications in the area of severe accident analysis of nuclear reactors. He continued this line of research while conducting postdoctoral studies at the University of Missouri until accepting his current position with NuScale.
