Sterling College Homecoming Festivities Set for October 7-9

Sterling College will welcome alumni and friends to campus for the annual Homecoming festivities Oct. 7-9. The public is also invited to participate in the weekend’s events.
The musical “Pirates of Penzance” opens the weekend, beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening. “Pirates” will also be performed on Friday and Saturday evenings at the same time. On Friday evening the Lady Warriors Volleyball team also plays at 7 p.m. in Gleason.
Alumni and friends of the College coming to Saturday’s festivities can stop by the United Presbyterian Church and eat an early or late breakfast at the Lady Warriors Pancake Feed, which runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. at the Sterling Farmer’s Co-op on Broadway Ave., travels north to Washington Street and then turns west past the Presbyterian Manor. The Homecoming candidates, Zack Yarbrough, Leah Frees, Christina Cheyney, Salima Watson, Jason D’Amico and Kenny McGrath, are part of the parade.
Homecoming Hangout, featuring booths, a free petting zoo, face painting and inflatables, begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues till 1 p.m. The Lady Warriors soccer team plays Kansas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. and the men’s soccer team plays at 1 p.m.
The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at 1:10 p.m., and the opening kickoff of the Warrior football team against Friends University is at 1:30 p.m. Inductions to the Warrior Athletic Hall of Fame will be announced at halftime of the football game, and the Post-Game Stretch will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Gleason.
Several alumni classes are holding reunions during the Homecoming weekend, including the classes of 1949-’51, 1960, 1970, 1980, the Decade of the 80s (’81-’91), 2000 and 2005. The Alumni Banquet is open to all alumni, not just those having reunions. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday evening in the east cafeteria, with the banquet beginning at 5:45 p.m. and ending at 7:30 p.m.
