Life for women in the early southern colonies (1600s) was hard, but also provided opportunities for equality. The new nation faced many challenges, allowing women to fill roles outside of societal norms. Join the Barton County Chapter of Women for Kansas in celebrating Women’s History Month, at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, 592 NE K-156.

Jason Lindstrom, Barton Community College history instructor, will present “Women’s Equality in the 16th Century U. S. Colonies”. Lindstrom will introduce several women who have been forgotten by history, but who played a pivotal role in the survival of European settlements in North America. 

Lindstrom holds degrees from the University of Kansas, Fort Hays State University and Ohio University. Committed to livelong learning, he resides in Hutchinson with his wife and three children.
