At about 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, the Great Bend Police Department, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Great Bend Fire Department Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to Fuller Industries LLC, 15 SW 40 Avenue, Great Bend, in reference to an employee being severely injured in a workplace accident, Police Chief Steve Haulmark said. Leo Sobba, 53, was transported to the University of Kansas Health Systems Great Bend Campus by Great Bend Fire Department ambulance personnel for treatment of his injuries.

No additional information was available at press time concerning the accident, but Sobba’s wife Christine posted an update on his condition Tuesday afternoon on Facebook, saying he had been flown to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The doctor told her that both of Sobba’s femur bones are broken, they had to amputate the bottom part of his left leg and he has broken ribs. Surgery on one femur bone was planned for Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Sobba thanked Facebook friends for their prayers.
