GBRC announces fall enrichment program registration

The Great Bend Recreation Commission is now accepting enrollment for fall enrichment programs.  

After-school activities will be offered at the Carl Soden Recreation Center, 1214 Stone St., from 3:30-5 p.m. These programs include one-time special craft projects on Mondays and some Fridays, Ceramics & Crafts on Tuesdays, Fall Art Studio and Cooking 101 on Wednesdays, and Crafting & Painting With This & That on Thursdays.   

GBRC is also offering an After School Adventures program at the Great Bend Rec Activity Center, 2715 18th St., Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30-5 p.m. in October and November. They are also teaming up with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center to offer “The Animals of Cheyenne Bottoms” and “STEM and the Wetlands,” which will also be held Mondays through Thursdays. 

GBRC will also hold Christmas craft classes coming in December.  

The Rec is also offering programs for when school is out this fall. These programs include: Plant Mania Kids Day Out with KWEC, Babysitting 101, Half Day of Spooky Crafts, A Day In the Life of the Human Body Kids Day Out, and Holiday Kids Day Out programs over Christmas break.

Preschool programs for children, ages 2 to 5, will be held at the Carl Soden Recreation Center and the Activity Center throughout the day, including Moving & Grooving with Music, Jr. All-Star, Turkey Crafts and Ho-Ho Ho Crafts.  

They will also offer family activities during mini classes that meet during the day, evenings and on Saturday mornings. Some of these programs include: A Little Zoo & Craft Fun, Toddler Art, Spooky Crafts, Mommy & Me Halloween Painting, Painting Pumpkins With Dad, Cooking Apples with Mom, Happy Fall, Holiday Crafts, Mommy & Me Christmas Painting along with others.

Adult programs are scheduled in the evening and Saturday mornings. Options include Oil Painting & Painting Techniques, Saturday Morning Crafts, Fall, Halloween and Christmas Craft Nights Out, one-time seasonal craft projects and several lunch hour educational programs on Wednesdays.

Another new program offering this fall is called Projects To Go. Participants will register for the class and then stop by the Rec, where staff will have the project and other supplies needed in a bag for participants to take home. This will include a Facebook Live event showing participants how to complete the projects. 

GBRC is also offering a wide range of fitness classes that are held at the Great Bend Rec Activity Center, including Cardio Mix Up, Gentle Yoga, Noon Body Shaping, Penalty Box Fit Training, Fit For Life, Tai Chi Advance, Tai Chi Beginners, Tai Chi Intermediate, Coffee, Cardio & Core, Yoga and Dance Jam.
