RUSSELL COUNTY — A Great Bend man’s body was recovered Monday from Wilson Lake after the Russell County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible drowning.

A diver recovered the body of Clarence Edward Flores, 45, around 5:41 p.m.

Russell County Sheriff Fred J. Whitman issued a news release but did not explain the circumstances leading to Flores' death. Russell County Dispatch received a call at or near 4:03 p.m. Monday of the possible drowning at the Lucas Swim Beach. The RCSO, Russell County EMS, Dorrance Fire, Lucas Fire, Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Kansas Highway Patrol Aircraft responded to the scene.

“After a thorough search of the area, a body was located by boat sonar under the water,” Whitman stated. After the body was recovered, Flores’ next of kin was notified. An autopsy has been scheduled.

“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all first responders and good Samaritans for their work in the recovery of Mr. Flores and to keep Mr. Flores’ family in their thoughts and prayers during this trying time,” the sheriff said.
