A hit-and-run accident around 3 a.m. Saturday shattered a  utility pole at the base. The pole is located  between Polk and Lincoln streets on the south side of 19th Street.

There were tracks leading up to the pole through a yard. Electric company employees worked at least 90 minutes on stabilizing the pole and disconnecting the lines. It is unknown if anyone was hurt or if many homes were left without power. According to the Great Bend Police Department the accident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the police department, 620-793-4120.
