Quick. It’s time to start perfecting your corn hole throw.
Saturday afternoon, the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce is hosting its third annual corn hole tournament at Rock Into Summer. The fun starts at 3 p.m. at Hoisington’s Bicentennial Park pavilion.
Lawn chairs are encouraged, but there will be no coolers or outside food allowed. Not to worry though, says Hoisington Chamber Director Karen Baldyga. A beer garden will be open during all the corn hole excitement. In the evening, for a small fee, a barbecue meal will be offered for a small fee, and stick around for a free concert. The Hoisington Chamber is proud to present Ronnie and the Rockits from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. .
Teams of two are forming now to face off in some (not so) serious competition for the title of Corn hole Champion. Register online at https://www.hoisingtonkansas.com/registercornholetournament, or stop by the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce office at 123 N. Main Street.
So, for those who haven’t been initiated or wonder but are afraid to ask, here’s the basics of Corn hole. It can be played with teams of two or four. It also doesn’t require any athletic ability, in fact, the American Corn hole League’s motto is “Anyone Can Play and Anyone Can Win.” It’s a lot like the popular beanbag toss we all played when we were little at birthday parties and school carnivals. But, its more fun. Why? Because of all the fun scoring terms.
We found many websites that had more-or-less the same rules and terms. Cornholehowto.com offers the essentials:
Essential Corn hole Terms:
Woody, Boarder: A bag that ends up on the board.
Corn hole, Holer, Corn in the Hole: A bag that ends up in the hole.
Dos Corn hole’ : Throwing two bags in the hole.
Holy Moly Triple Cornholy: Throwing 3 bags in the hole.
The Great Cornholio: A person that throws 4 bags in the hole. All present are required to bow down in reverence to this cornholer.
Get that corn outta my face!: A term used whenever you successfully counteract your opponent’s attempt to score. For example, when you put a bag in the hole immediately after your opponent does or when you successfully knock your opponent’s bag off the board.
Corn On The Cob: When a player puts every bag on the board.
Nothin’ But Corn: When a bag is tossed right through the hole without touching the board.
Definitely visit the website and watch the video for the Corn hole Song, the unofficial anthem for the game. It’ll give you a laugh, and may just inspire you to give the game of corn hole a try.
For those who are really turned on to the game, another website worth checking out is for the American Corn hole League , featured on ESPN.
