HOISINGTON – Hoisington’s Chris Jonas outlasted a dozen entries Sunday afternoon to win the top purse in the Bone Stock class of the 42nd annual Demolition Derby in Hoisington Bicentennial Park.

The annual Labor Day event featured expanded purses in four categories for drivers coming as far as Texas, Nebraska and Illinois, as well as local competitors.

Many of the drivers have been competing since May in the Championship Demolition Derby Association’s points race. In the CDDA Series, the top 10 competitors from three derbies in each of six regions earn points to qualify for the CrashtoberFest Oct. 8-9 at Salina Speedway. This year’s championship has been expanded to two days for the first time in the history of the event.

Next up for many of the drivers leading up to the big money is the Kansas State Fair on Sept. 13, featuring Modified, Limited Weld and Bone stock (1980s and newer) classes, and the Iola Fall Derby on Sept. 18.
