Registration is now open for the 2015 Biking Across Kansas bicycle tour across the State of Kansas. The 41st year of the largest bicycling event in Kansas history — 500-mile ride across the State — begins on Saturday, June 6. Biking Across Kansas is an eight-day tour originating at the Kansas-Colorado line with a route of up to 900 bicyclists, including support staff.
The bicyclists will start at the Kansas-Colorado line west of Johnson City. Their overnight stops will be Lakin, Jetmore, Larned, Sterling, Goessel, Council Grove, and Baldwin City. The cyclists final night together will be in Baldwin City on Friday, June 12. The following morning they will cycle to the Missouri border near Louisburg and will celebrate the end of the ride on Saturday.
BAK is also routed through: Ulysses, Garden City, Kalvesta, Burdett, Hudson, Inman, Marion, Cottonwood Falls, Osage City and many more Kansas towns. Participants will pedal through Fort Larned, the Quivira Wildlife Refuge, the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, and historic Council Grove, said David Rohr, Chairman of Biking Across Kansas Inc.
Riders will range in age from 8 to 85 years old. Families representing multiple generations are expected again this year. Many of the riders will be from Kansas, but entries are also expected from as many as 30 states.
