Council holds unsafe structure hearing; Commission honors employees

The Great Bend City Council will meet Monday night and the Barton County Commission will meet Wednesday morning, and both plan virtual meetings due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions.

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at City Hall, 1209 Williams. One can also view the meetings on Access TV via Cox Cable Channel 20 or live online at www.facebook.com/gbcitycouncil/.The meeting will be recorded.  

The agenda includes a public hearing for an unsafe and dangerous structure at 1210 Morton, the enactment of a fee schedule, the sale of the remaining lots in the Amber Meadows Rural Housing Incentive District and improvements to the Water Treatment Plant’s ultra-violet disinfection system.

The commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• Recognition of county employees for years of service.

• An Employee Recognition Award for the Maternal and Child Health Program personnel with the Health Department.

• A proclamation for World Autism Acceptance Month.

• Proposals for the 2022 highway striping project.

• A review of the countywide burn ban.

• An update on the county’s dispute over a Sunflower Diversified Services request of exemption from property taxes for property at 5523 10th.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 10:15 a.m. – financial update with Matt Patzner, director of operations. 

• 10:30 a.m. – replacing beds on two dump trucks with Darren Williams, county works director.    

• 10:45 a.m. – Homeland Security Council appointment with Amy Miller, emergency risk manager.

• 11 a.m. – program update with Bailey Rankin, president, employee relations committee. 

• 11:15 a.m. – financial update with Matt Patzner, director of operations. 

• Noon – a commission will host a luncheon for the honorees of the Employee Recognition Award.  

• 1:15 p.m. – program overview with Steven Bohlender, executive vice president, Computer Information Concepts Inc.

• 3 p.m. – regular business discussion with Matt Patzner, director of operations.
