Honoring Jim Daily part of busy commission agenda

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The meeting will be open to the public but will also be streamed live due to COVID-19.

It will be live-streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously.

The agenda includes:

• A report on youth crew’s participation in Take Down Tobacco Day earlier this month in Topeka.

• Financial support of Great Bend Economic Development Inc.

• Kansas Department of Health and Environment Teen Pregnancy Targeted Case Management Additional Grant funding.

• A review of countywide the burn ban.

• The Kansas Department of Transportation cost-share program agreement for the resurfacing of SW 40 Avenue (Airport Road).

• Finalizing the purchase of land to expand the county sandpit near Ellinwood.

• The recognition of resigning District 4 Commissioner Jim Daily.

Following the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

• 10:30 a.m. – Jon Prescott will be sworn in to fill the unexpired term of Jim Daily as District 5 county commioner by County Clerk Bev Schmeidler.    

• 10:45 a.m. – 2022 Highway Striping Project with Barry McManaman, county engineer, and Darren Williams, county works director.  

• 11 a.m. – update on Kansas Department of Revenue, Drivers Licensing Office move with District 2 Commissioner Barb Esfeld. 

• 1:15 p.m. – executive session based on attorney-client privilege with Patrick Hoffman, county counselor. 

• 1:45 p.m. – regular business discussion and financial update with Matt Patzner, director of operations.
