LARNED — The Welcome Inn Garage and Bake Sale is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Donated items are welcome and can be left at the Welcome Inn, 113 W. 4th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. No clothes, shoes or broken items will be accepted for donation.

United Methodist Church will celebrate Saturday
LARNED — The Larned United Methodist Church will celebrate 140 years of Christian service Saturday in the Fellowship Hall at 701 Main Street. The present building was constructed and dedicated in 1963.
Birthday cake will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a concert by 4-Told, a gospel singing group. Everyone is welcome.
Come celebrate 140 years of serving Christ with the Larned United Methodist Church and Pastor Bethann Black on September 21, 2013. Birthday Cake will be served in the Fellowship Hall at 6 PM and a Gospel concert by 4-Told will follow at 7 p.m.
The first church was established in Larned Sept. 20, 1873, when Rev. A. Hartman, “a supply minister” from Great Bend, preached a sermon and seven Christians made a decision to start a church here. The first services were held in the Santa Fe Depot and later in a carpenter shop.
Board member spot available to public
LARNED — The Fort Larned USD 495 board approved a resolution to move forward to fill the vacant board seat Sept. 9. The vacant position was created when Marcia Giessel resigned in August. There are two years remaining for the vacant seat.
The board authorized the following procedure for anyone interested in fulfilling the remaining two years of this position:
Anyone wanting to be considered for this position must submit a letter of interest and resume to Tiffany Burris, Fort Larned USD 495 board clerk.
Information must be received by 5 p.m. Oct. 4.
The board will review the applicants and selected candidates will be invited to the Oct. 14 board meeting. At this meeting candidates will be given five minutes to share why they want to serve on the board. The board will hold open discussion and either select a candidate or elect to continue the search.
