Vets meeting set Sunday

LARNED — All Pawnee County Veterans are invited to a public veterans meeting from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Jack Krieger VFW Post, 603 Edwards St.
Discussion will ask whether the public and local veterans would support the establishment of a Veterans Hall for the use of local veterans. Direct any questions or inquiries to Rev. John W. Augmon at 620-285-6852.

Benefit set for Sunday

LARNED — The Kappa Psi Sorority of Larned is sponsoring a benefit dinner for Dana Burger from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Larned Community Center.
The dinner will help cover expenses due to a medically indicated cancer prevention surgery. A silent auction is scheduled and there will be a drawing for an iPad 2. Contact any sorority member to purchase a ticket. A fund has been established for Dana at the American State Bank in Larned.

Larned city council candidates must file
LARNED —Those residents interested in filing for positions on the Larned city council have until Jan. 24 to file paperwork with the Larned city clerk at city hall. The filing fee is $5.
Ruth Searight, Pawnee County clerk, said the general election for the city of Larned is scheduled Tuesday, April 3.
One ward position in four Larned wards will be up for a two-year term. Serving in the Larned city council with expiring terms are Gary Rainbolt, Ward 1; George Elmore, Ward 2; Harry Zielke, Ward 3; and Barbara Hammond, Ward 4.
