Camp Pawnee benefit Sunday

LARNED — The Camp Pawnee Revitalization Project and Larned Pride will sponsor a benefit all-you-can-eat soup lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the J.A. Haas Exhibit Building. The menu features chicken and noodles, ham and beans, stew and dessert.
Free-will donations will provide matching funds for a $2,000 donation from United Way of Central Kansas, which is working with Larned Pride. Business donations are also accepted.
Current Camp Pawnee projects include a basketball court, a volleyball court, fishing dock, clubhouse renovations, new trees and a new playground.

SF Trails Days on agenda

LARNED — At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, following the Larned Chamber Board meeting at 122 Broadway, Chamber members and interested parties will discuss organizational aspects of the 2012 Santa Fe Trail Days in Larned. Anyone is welcome to attend. For information, call (620) 285-6916.

Preliminary hearing set

LARNED — Loren Lane, 57 of Larned, made his first appearance and Magistrate Judge Danny Smith set a date of April 10, for a preliminary hearing in Pawnee County District Court.
Lane has been charged by the Pawnee County Attorney’s Office with involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield at an intersection, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
The charges stem from a Feb. 3, 2011, traffic accident involving two vehicles on K-156 west of Larned.  The accident report indicates Lane’s vehicle turned into oncoming traffic at the intersection of 130th Ave. Rick E. Perez died as a result of injuries he sustained in the incident. Perez was 47 at the time.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — The guild met on Tuesday, March 6 in the fellowship hall of the First Presbyterian Church. 
The following announcements included: National Quilting Month presenters at the Jordaan Library during the month of March are Diann Morell, Coleen Wolf, Virginia Bauer, and Ann Hicks; patriotic display of quilt items at Jordaan Library during the month of March; the annual Quilting Celebration starting at 9 a.m. June 9 at the church; workday on Saturday, March 10 at the church; and the next regular meeting of the guild on Tuesday, March 20.
Thank you to Mildred Fyler and Larry Mohler for the donation of a Hinterberg Quilt Rack and to the general public for gifts of fabric for prayer quilts.
Show and Tell participants were: Opal Macy, “Carpenter’s Wheel and Bear’s Paw quilt blocks; Sandra Donavan, a little girl’s St. Patrick dress made out of a T-shirt; Susan Gray, “Stack & Wack Halloween,” quilt; and Coleen Wolf, blue “Super Star,” table runner.

Workshops scheduled

LARNED — In celebration of National Quilting Month, the Pawnee County Quilting Bees are sponsoring short workshops beginning at 1 p.m. at the Jordaan Library through the month of March.
Diann Morell started the presentations with the “10 Minute Block” and “Strip Magic.”
Coleen Wolf will present, “Rough around the Edges,” Thursday, March 15.  
Demonstrations will include samples and a handout of directions.  All presentators are members of the local guild.  Interested individuals may call 285-1056 for additional information.  The public is invited.
