Beta Sigma Phi meets
LARNED — Tina McClendon and the Kappa Psi chapter welcomed members of the three sorority chapters to the annual Founder’s Day on April 30 at Grumpy’s.
Following dinner, a short program was conducted. The three presidents Linda Haynes, Alice Clapsaddle and Tina McClendon presented short reviews on this year’s theme “Building Traditions through the Future.”
Each president was presented a scrapbook made by the individual chapter. Girls of the Year were awarded to: Carol Jacobs, Alpha Kappa Master; Linda Haynes, Laureate Beta Nu, and Jamie Wagner, Kappa Psi.
Jennifer McNett announced the 2012-2013 theme, “You’re Among Friends.”
A few lucky winners were presented door prizes of a yellow rose bud vase. During the social hour, guests were treated to viewing past scrapbooks. Alpha Kappa Master will host next year’s Founder’s Day.
Quilting Bees meet
LARNED — Virginia Bauer chaired the May 1 meeting in the absence of the president. Thank you notes were read from Bob Rein and Larry Purdy for prayer quilts.
Announcements included the Quilting Celebration on June 2 featuring workshops, trunk show, lunch, peddler’s corner and door prizes. All About Quilts of Manhattan, Kansas has donated a scissor holder and a tote bag for door prizes. The general public is invited. The May 15 meeting will feature a demonstration by Ann Hicks and include the “frog” fat quarter drawing. Final plans will be made for the June 2 event.
The opportunity quilt has been quilted by Merlene Baird and daughter Gina of Hannibal, Mo. Members will be accepting drawing donations with the completion of the binding.
Several women attended a quilting weekend in Manhattan which, in this writer’s opinion, sounded more like a slumber party than a working quilting party.
Show and Tell participants featured Opal Macy, “The Crossing,” from the Pioneer quilt block; Colleen Wolf, 12 inch blocks in patriotic fabrics, “Cheaper by the Dozen,” quilt top using pansy fabric; Melvina Prescott, scrappy gingham pinwheel baby quilt top; Diane Schultz, quilted rotary and mat bag; Alice Clapsaddle, “Cat” table runner in bright fall colors; Virginia Bauer, several itty bitty quilt table toppers in scrappy fabric triangles.
