Suspect enters plea to manslaughter

LARNED — Loren Lane, 57 of Larned, entered a guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter charges while under the influence of alcohol in Pawnee County District Court Wednesday.
In exchange for the plea deal, the Pawnee County Attorney’s Office dismissed charges against Lane for failure to yield at an intersection and failure to wear a seatbelt.
The charges stem from the Feb. 3, 2011, fatal traffic accident involving two vehicles on K-156 west of Larned.  The accident reported indicated Lane’s vehicle turned into oncoming traffic at the intersection of 130th Ave. Rick E. Perez, 47, died as a result of injuries he sustained in the incident.
Sentencing in Pawnee District Court is scheduled for July 6.  Lane remains free on bond.

Quilt show starts June 8

LARNED — Nothing seems to evoke the pioneer prairie home quite like a large, brightly patterned quilt.  Patchwork Pawnee: Our Community in Quilts opens on June 8 at the Santa Fe Trail Center in Larned. The exhibit features more than 20 quilts loaned from Larned and Pawnee County specifically for the exhibit.
Each quilt’s personal and distinct story will be told.  Besides the history and stories behind the quilts, quilt patterns will also be explained to show how specific patterns tell different stories and have unique meanings. Patchwork Pawnee will be on display in the auditorium at the Santa Fe Trail Center through the end of June.
The Santa Fe Trail Center is two miles west of Larned on K-156. The museum is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
