No parking please

LARNED — The Larned Area Chamber of Commerce is requesting that local citizens remove their vehicles on Broadway Street from 4th Street to Eighth Street during Santa Fe Trail Days scheduled from Thursday through Sunday.
It is requested that vehicles are not parked downtown from Friday through 8 p.m. Sunday.

Quilting Bees have meeting

LARNED — President Ann Hicks thanked all who helped with the Quilter’s Celebration June 2 at the Presbyterian Church. Approximately 60 women attended from central and western Kansas.
The Opportunity Quilt, a sampler quilt, was on display at the event. Members of the guild pieced the blocks, Diann Morell constructed the quilt, and Gina Janes of Hannibal, Missouri quilted the quilt.
Thank you notes were read from Myrna Cannon, Jordaan Library and Ann Hicks.  Announcements included workdays for June 23 and July 21 and a quilt show at the Santa Fe Trail Center until July 8 where visitors may try their hand at quilting using the large floor quilt frame. The next regular meeting will be June 19.
Show and Tell participants were Ann Hicks, sacks of scraps for crazy quilts and pattern; Melvina Prescott, 12-inch crazy quilt block; and Alice Clapsaddle, Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt and Corn and Beans quilt.

Larned USD 495 to meet

LARNED — The Fort Larned USD 495 school board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the board of education office.
Agenda items include reports from building principals, curriculum, maintenance, and Superintendent Jon Flint. An executive session will include negotiations and non-elected personnel.
Other items include technology purchases, board discussion, treasurer’s report, salaries for classified employees, directors and administrators, hirings, transfers and resignations. A report from a special meeting will also be heard.

Commission to meet Monday

LARNED — The Pawnee County commission will meet at 10 a.m. Monday.
10 a.m. — Mark Bauer, VonFeldt, Bauer and VonFeldt, Larned/Pawnee County airport.
10:30 a.m. — Jim Johnson, Sunflower Diversified, budget, recycling.


Welcome Inn board meets

LARNED — The regular monthly meeting of the Welcome Inn Leisure Center Inc. was called to order by President Charles Wonsetler June 6 at 12:55 p.m.
In addition to Charles Wonsetler, the following board members were present — Ben Appel, vice president; Betty Tauscher, secretary, Jim Forrest, treasurer; Thelmarie Wilhite, historian; and Roger Haberman, reporter. Absent was Ernie Ashley, financial secretary. Guests were Elaine Appel, Amy Bauer and Bobbie Sharrock.
Jim Forrest gave the treasurer’s report. All bills were allowed.
The winner is Betty Beckwith. Betty won the Picnic Basket that was given away at the May 17 Birthday and Anniversary dinner. She then gave back to the Welcome Inn, a gift certificate and some pop that was in the basket. Thanks Betty! These items are to be used during the Ice Cream Socials held the fourth Sunday of every month.
The roof and lean-to work was completed during the week of May 21. Ben Appel and Bob Appel were in charge of the project and handled everything at the highest level (roof). Assistance on the ground was provided by Todd Ostrander, G.L. VonFledt, Bill Nicholson, Charles Wonsetler and Roger Haberman. Thanks volunteers.
The next carry-in dinner is scheduled for June 10 with Betty Tauscher and Charles Wonsetler signed up as the hosts.
The meeting adjourned at 1:35 p.m. The Welcome Inn board will meet again on July 11 at about 12:45 p.m.
