USD 495 to meet Monday

LARNED — A proposed tennis court renovation will be discussed at the Fort Larned USD 495 school board at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the district office.
Agenda items include reports from principals, directors, maintenance, transportation, special education, technology and Superintendent Jon Flint.
Other items include nominations, separations, transfers, food service, treasurer’s report, activity account and Tri County donation.

Saturday show added

LARNED — Larned’s State Theatre is bringing back the Saturday afternoon matinee beginning Sept. 22 through Nov. 10. The matinee will start at 2 p.m.
The first 50 paid admissions for the Sept. 22 and Sept. 29 matinees will receive a free medium drink at the concession stand. Ticket prices range from $3 to $6.
The main feature movie each week will play Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Ann Hicks chaired the Sept. 4 meeting at the First Presbyterian Church.  
Thank you notes were read from Susan Colglazier, Reed Peters, Mary Weber for Gil in Wichita, and John Womack for prayer quilts recently received.  
Members will attend the Pat Knoechel workshop in Great Bend featuring “Tales of the First Ladies” Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. A workday is scheduled for Sept. 22.  
Hicks presented two demonstrations using vintage dresser scarves and made into aprons and table runners for family at Christmas. The second presentation was a review of two quilt blocks from the Underground Railroad pattern. The next regular meeting will be Sept. 18.
Show and Tell participants were  Susan Gray, “Exploding Pineapple” quilt top in vivid colors;  Diane Schultz, “Spool” quilt top; Merlene Baird, 1915 hand quilted early 20th century quilt by Ella Ingrid recently purchased at Carr Auction; Ann Hicks, wall hanging from a kit, doll blanket, green/orange/cream table runner; and Alice Clapsaddle, lined apron of large fruit fabric, table topper from charms with Minnesota motif, child’s “Peanuts” blanket trimmed in navy blue and red, and a nativity wall hanging.
