Commission to meet

LARNED — The Pawnee County Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Pawnee County Courthouse.
Agenda items include:
10 a.m. — Courtland Holman, Larned Chamber, Rural Opportunity Zone update.
10;30 a.m. — Danise Wood, Community Corrections/Juvenile Justice Authority, quarterly report.
11 a.m. — Kurt Demel, Pawnee County highway administrator, road updates.

Sale scheduled

LARNED — The Central Kansas Respiratory Services, 117 W. 6th Street, will conduct an inventory sale of discounted items removed from service from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Golf clinic scheduled

LARNED — Larned High golfer Michael Reece will coordinate a junior golf clinic targeted for youngsters 18 and under from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Larned Country Club. Primary instruction and techniques of the game will be offered. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Reece will be assisted by Larned High coaches Mike Seeman and Toni Notovny, professional Ralph Terry and Don Collins.

Alpha Kappa Master meets

LARNED — The Alpha Kappa Master chapter met at the home of Glenna Melkus with Julie Ford as co-hostess.  President Merlene Baird announced the upcoming “Paddle Party” at Glory Be at 2 p.m. Nov. 4.  Tickets are available and for additional information call 285-6070.  
Secretary Connie Carlton announced that insurance is available from Beta Sigma Phi International for liability.
Janet Skelton led the Beta Book Drill on meetings which included regular, committees, and socials.  
Service chair Rosie Rein thanked members for bringing children’s clothing items for Hillside School and announced the chapter will provide bottled water for those working at the general election on Nov. 6 at the community building.
Julie Ford said donations are coming in for the vest for “Dutch” at the sheriff’s department.  
Alice Clapsaddle reported the next social will be an early morning coffee at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 at Scraps.  
Prior to the social hour, Glenna Melkus presented the program “Keukenhof Gardens” in Holland located near the 17th century city of Amsterdam.  
The next regular meeting will be at the rural home of Patty Smith beginning with a light supper at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12.  Julie Ford will present the program.

Quilting Bees meet

LARNED — Sixteen members met Monday at the Presbyterian Church to plan ahead for the next several months.  
Thank you notes were acknowledged by the president Ann Hicks.  
Saturday will be a work day at the at the Presbyterian Church.  
The “Heart and Hands” quilting diva sale will start at 9 a.m. Nov. 11 with coffee and goodies.
Upcoming events included Nov. 6 and 20 next regular meetings, workday on Nov. 17, and the Christmas Party and Potluck on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m.  
There will not be another meeting in December.  The drawing of the “Tree” fat quarters was won by Rita Schaller and next month’s drawing will be Bows and Ribbons.  
Discussion was held in making quilts for charity.  A demonstration of past 12 inch quilt blocks was reviewed by the president.
Members bringing quick and easy Christmas projects were  Myrna Cannon, “Topsy-Turvey” pattern and material; Merlene Baird, flannel baby quilt with self binding; Becky Obermiller, “Domino” pattern quilt top using 4 inch squares; Susan Gray, head band; Joyce Bernum, billfold, ear warmer and pattern and a man’s ear warmer that fits over a ball cap, tying a scarf into a vest; Diann Morell, soft draped scarf idea; Virginia Bauer, towel; Debbie Berkeley, redwork, baby quilt using “Grandpa’s Buzz Saw” pattern in blue and greens; Alice Clapsaddle, towel with yo-yos and a Christmas table runner; Ann Hicks, various aprons using a new towel with the good pieces of handwork her mother made.

Hunter class Oct. 27

LARNED — The Larned Recreation Commission will sponsor an Internet assisted hunter education class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 27.
