Commission to meet

LARNED — The Pawnee County Commission will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at the Pawnee County Courthouse.
Agenda items include:
10 a.m. — Dallas Scrip, BMI, health insurance.
10:30 a.m. — Kurt Demel, Pawnee County road and bridge equipment updates.
11 a.m. — Mary Beth Herrmann, Pawnee County health department.
11:30 a.m. — Matt Heyn, Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, administrator, moving expenses to new building.

Welcome Inn board meets

LARNED — The regular monthly meeting of the Welcome Inn Leisure Center Inc. was called to order by President Charles Wonsetler at 1:15 p.m. Nov. 7.
 In addition to Charles Wonsetler, the following board members were present — Ben Appel, vice president, Jim Forrest, treasurer, Karlene Meckfessel, financial secretary; and Roger Haberman, reporter. Absent were Betty Tauscher, secretary; and Thelmarie Wilhite, historian. Guests were Mona Marie Wysong and Elaine Appel.
Jim Forrest gave the treasurer’s report. All bills were allowed.
An article concerning memorials to the Welcome Inn was discussed and will be part of our What Nots in the next few weeks.
Also discussed was transportation in general and the need for Internet Service at the Welcome Inn. The discussions on transportation and Internet service will be continued at the next board meeting.
The next carry-in dinner is scheduled for Nov. 11. The carry-in dinner on Oct. 14, was hosted by Jean Vratil and Edith Winkler with a very nice number in attendance and, as usual, a lot of food.
The meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m. The Welcome Inn board will meet at 12:45 p.m. Dec. 5.

Alpha Kappa Master meets

LARNED — Members met in the rural home of Patty Smith for the Nov. 12 meeting conducted by the president Merlene Baird.  Prior to the business meeting, members enjoyed a soup supper followed by a game led by the social chair Alice Clapsaddle. The group sent Thanksgiving Day cards to former members Effie Smith and Sue Schuster.
Rosie Rein led in the Beta Book drill on the Beta Sigma Phi Insignia.  
Courtesy chair Marcia King sent a card to former member Kathy Borck and read a thank you note from Hillside Principal Leah Harding.  
The recent fundraiser “Paddle Party” Nov. 3 was well attended.  Service committee announced that the bottles of water given to the election board on Nov. 6 was appreciated by all.  
Julie Ford announced that the goal of $1,000 for a bullet-proof vest for the canine dog “Dutch” has been met and the project has been extended to provide additional equipment for “Dutch.”  
Alice Clapsaddle reported that the recent October coffee and the soup supper were enjoyed by all. Upcoming socials include a Dec. 8  couples party from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fort Larned National Historic Site Christmas Open House, a Dec. 10 coffee at Glenna Melkus home from 9-11 a.m. and the annual Christmas party, gift exchange and program at the home of Rosie Rein at 6:30 p.m.  Dec. 10.
Julie Ford and Patty Smith presented the program using audience participation on “Friendship”, the international theme for the year.  The next regular meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the home of Rosie Rein with Connie Carlton as co-hostess and in charge of the program.
