Santa Fe Trail Center
schedules new hours
LARNED — Starting after the first of the year, the Santa Fe Trail Center in Larned will be closed Sundays and Mondays year-round. The museum and grounds will be open to the public from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Mondays, the Trail Center will be open by appointment only to large groups and school tours.
The Santa Fe Trail Center is two miles west of Larned on Hwy K-156.

Special meeting set
LARNED — A public meeting of the Pawnee County Commission will be scheduled at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 in the meeting room at the Pawnee County Courthouse. Commissioners will address questions that will be submitted by citizens interested in learning more about the work of the Pawnee County commission.
Santa’s House set
LARNED — The Santa House which is located on the Pawnee County Courthouse grounds will be open Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. All youngsters and those young at heart are invited to meet Santa.
Group will meet
LARNED — The next Diabetic Support Group meeting is scheduled Jan. 10. There will be December meeting.
Flu vaccine available
LARNED — The Pawnee County Health Department continues to have seasonal influenza vaccine available for children and adults from 6 months of age and older. The clinics are on Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Alpha Kappa Master meets
LARNED — All members attended the December Christmas meeting and gift exchange on December 10th at the gaily decorated home of Rosie Rein with Connie Carlton as co-hostess.
Prior to the business meeting, Rein and Carlton served a set-down multicultural light supper followed by sweets after the gift exchange.
Members signed Christmas cards for former members Effie Smith and Sue Schuster and an additional thinking of you card for Sue Schuster.
Gifts for a 14-year-old girl from the Angel Tree have been purchased and delivered to the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Socials this month included a coffee at Glenna Melkus home, a gathering at the Fort Larned National Historic Site’s open house on Dec. 8, and the annual Christmas party.
Plans for the annual founder’s day event will be started in January.
Carlton presented the program “Fruitcake and Friendship”. All enjoyed the gift exchange with Margaret Larson’s gift for her secret sister arriving the day of the meeting from North Pole, Alaska.
A thank you goes out to Keith Melkus who presented each member with an embroidered poinsettia cup towel.
The next meeting will be casual at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 at the home of Alice Clapsaddle with Clapsaddle and Glenna Melkus presenting the program. A vote on the Valentine Queen will be held.
