Harbert fundraiser Saturday

Debra Harbert fundraiser

LARNED — A bake sale fundraiser for Debra Harbert is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Carr Auction in Larned. If you would like to contribute baked goods, you can deliver your favorite goodies directly to Carr Auction at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Pawnee Valley events

• Pawnee Valley Sleep and Diagnostic Center will sponsor a free sleep apnea awareness clinic from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.  Keynote speaker is Ryan Schmidt, BS RRT, a clinical specialist with Philips Respironics.
• Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Foundation will sponsor “Ask The Expert” from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Nov. 18.  Pam Wong, PVCH dietary supervisor, will talk about “Healthier Holiday Dining.”  Coffee Chat is held every Monday.
• A free community diabetes education class is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Nov. 20 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital.  Topics include diabetes information, meter use, medication, foot care, treating hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, meal planning and carb counting. Coffee scheduled Thursday

LARNED — Larned High School Overactors Annonymous will sponsor Thursday’s Larned Chamber coffee hour at 9:30 a.m. in the Larned High gymnasium.

Phinney concert is Friday

LARNED — Phinney Elementary School students will present a concert honoring veterans at 7 p.m. Friday at Larned Middle School.

Plant, craft sale set Friday

LARNED — The horticulture therapy workshop at Larned State Hospital will sponsor a plant and craft sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the LSH greenhouse. Fall and winter craft items, decorations, wreaths and foliage plants will be sold.

Cheerleaders to sell donuts

LARNED — The Larned High School girls basketball team will sell Krispy Kreme donuts starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at the corner of 14th and Broadway in Larned. Contact any basketball player for early sales.

Plains Indian Art
program Saturday

LARNED — “Plains Indian Art,” a popular art program for children, is returning by popular demand!  
In commemoration of American Indian Heritage Month an interactive program for children will take place at the Jordaan Memorial Library from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“Plains Indian Art,” will be presented by the staff of Fort Larned National Historic Site and will features games, stories, and painting symbols activities.   
The program is designed for ages 5 and up. Older youngsters can assist the younger ones. The paint used for this program is non-toxic and washable.  
Reservations can be made at the Jordaan Public Library by calling 285-2876. Space is limited.

Sterling College Ministry Team
LARNED — The Sterling College Ministry Team, comprised of 20 students, will be leading worship at the First Presbyterian Church, 8th and Morris in Larned, on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 11 a.m. Coffee and refreshments will be served at 10:30 a.m.

BURDETT — The Burdett American Legion Post 280 SAL is sponsoring Pancakes and Sausage on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Burdett American Legion building.

Life in the Law Conversation
LARNED — The Ministerial Association of Pawnee County is sponsoring a community conversation focused on the Ten Commandments. Are they still important?  Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Larned to find the answers.

Larned sophomores
schedule fundraiser

LARNED — The Larned High School sophomore class will sponsor a youth basketball tournament Feb. 22-23 to raise funds for the 2013 high school prom.
Divisions will be are third and fourth-grade girls and boys; and fifth and sixth-grade boys and girls. Teams will be guaranteed three games and awards will be presented for first and second teams. A free throw competition is also scheduled.

Winners in Raffle Drawing
     LARNED – Winners in the Larned Ladies VFW Auxiliary raffle drawing were drawn on Veterans Day.  Winning the big basket of goodies was Beverly Cornelison .  
“I’m so excited,” she said.  “I never win things.”
     The winner of the flag painted on old barn wood was Roger Fox.  Winning the olive oil dish set and a two liter of soda was Richard Yunker.  Kathy Jadwin took home a consolation prize of a two liter of soda and some patriotic decorations.  All winners were from Larned.
     “We thank everyone who participated in the raffle,” said Marcheta Jacobson, senior-vice president of the Auxiliary.  “The proceeds will go to help Veterans, plus other worth causes.”
