Ellinwoods splash pad makes waves

In this 2017 file photo, kids play in the new splash pad in Ellinwood. Following action Tuesday by the Ellinwood City Council, the pool and splash pad will remain closed in 2020 due to the current pandemic crisis.

It was nothing but fun and splashing on Thursday in Ellinwood during the ribbon cutting ceremony that took place and officially opened the new splash pad outside the Ellinwood Municipal Swimming Pool.
“We are very pleased to have this splash pad for the community of Ellinwood,” Ellinwood Rotary Club member Rosie Joiner said. “The splash pad has been in the works for a few years now,” she added, noting fundraising efforts in the community. “We could have not done it without all the people and donors that were involved.”
The play area is free to the public and features five types of splash equipment along with some underground water features that shoot water up.
“The pad is all electronic and features are programmed to turn on and off at different times as the children play,” Joiner said. “The entire pad in turned on by a push of a button and turns itself off.”
The pad is located next to the Ellinwood Municipal Swimming Pool at 512 west 6th St. It will be turned on from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The pool opens Monday, May 29. For more information about the pool contact the Ellinwood City Office, 620-564-3161.
