A 34-year-old man was hospitalized Wednesday after being battered at a Great Bend residence. Keeven Hendricks was listed in fair condition Thursday at Via Christi Health’s St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
The Great Bend Police log shows Eric Reed, 40, contacted the police around 9:18 p.m. Wednesday to report he had hit Hendricks with a fiberglass pipe at 821 Morphy St. Lt. Bill Browne said Reed was staying at that address and argued with Hendricks when he came over. Browne said the two men were acquaintances but he did not know what they had argued about.
Police hadn’t been able to interview Hendricks, so the investigation is continuing, Browne said.
Hendricks was semi-conscious when police arrived and an ambulance transported him to Great Bend Regional Hospital. At 10:40 p.m. an officer checked on his status and learned Hendricks had been flown to the Wichita hospital.
Reed was booked into the Barton County Jail on an aggravated battery charge, with bond set at $20,000.
