A man convicted in Barton County District Court of rape and furnishing alcohol to a minor has been sentenced to more than 52 years in prison.
On Friday, Barton County Attorney Levi Morris issued a press release on two recent cases, including the Oct. 19 sentencing of Shawn Rosenberg.
“In August, a Barton County jury convicted Rosenberg of rape and furnishing alcohol to a minor,” Morris stated. “Rosenberg had the highest criminal history score possible on the Kansas sentencing grid. After hearing the arguments of counsel, District Court Judge Carey Hipp sentenced Rosenberg to 626 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections, and further ordered that time to run consecutive to Rosenberg’s Reno County convictions in Reno County case number 18 CR 734.”
The State of Kansas was represented by Assistant Barton County Attorneys Colin Reynolds and Rita Sunderland. The defendant was represented by Benjamin J Fisher.
Probation violation
In other news, Joseph McNett was back in District Court on Friday morning, Nov. 4, facing allegations that he had violated his probation. McNett had been charged in Sedgwick County case number 21 CR 2074 with rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, and aggravated sexual battery. The State presented evidence of new crimes, as well as evidence of other probation violations, Morris said. After the close of evidence, and the arguments of counsel, Judge Hipp found that McNett had violated his probation by committing new crimes, revoked his probation and ordered him to serve his underlying prison sentence of 49 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections.
The Barton County case number was 2018-CR-000365. The State of Kansas was represented by Assistant Barton County Attorney Colin Reynolds. The defendant was represented by Donald E Anderson II.
