Two people died after a plane crashed near Great Bend at 11:33 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper James Robinson.
The FAA said the plane was a 1997 plane that crashed in field near Great Bend. A 49-year-old Roger Brining from Great Bend and a 24-year-old Daniel Bishop from Clearfield, Utah died at the scene. Both were occupants of the aircraft.
The crash happened near the intersection of NW 40 Rd and NW 30 Ave in Barton County in a corn stubble field.
The single engine aircraft took off from the Great Bend airport and is owned and operated out of the Great Bend area.
Robinson said there was an eyewitness to the crash. The aircraft was flying south following NW 30 Ave. at 200-300 feet angling upward to gain altitude. The eyewitness said he heard the aircraft coming toward him and then a few moments later, it crashed.
The cause of the crash has not been determined. The FAA is coming to the scene for further investigation.
