ELLINWOOD — Two teachers from the Ellinwood School District have been nominated for regional awards by USD 355 administration. Angela Petersen, a fifth grade teacher at Ellinwood Grade School, has been nominated for “Teacher of the Year” for the Ellinwood School District. Andrea Everhart, a first grade teacher at Ellinwood Grade School, has been nominated for the Horizon Award, which is an award for first year teachers.
The teachers attended a conference in Salina on Saturday to find out the regional results.
Angela Petersen
This is Petersen’s 8th year in Ellinwood. She taught fourth grade for seven years, and is teaching 5th grade this year.
“I like getting to interact with kids,” said Petersen. “Kids want to learn new things. It’s rewarding to see them learn and grow.”
She went to Bethany College for her undergraduate degree, and to Fort Hays for her master’s degree.
She is from Dickinson County, between Abilene and Salina.
Andrea Everhart
Everhart said that she feels very honored to nominated by her district, a district that appreciates their teachers. “It’s a neat feeling,” she said. She is from Gypsum and went to K-State. She graduated from college in December, 2011.
“I love it here,” she said. It’s a great district to be in.
“If you love your job, then you’re happy,” she said. Her goal is to provide support academically and developmentally to that children can find their own success.
“Success comes from caring people,” Everhart said.
