HOISINGTON — Hoisington school district volleyball coach Tina Johnson submitted her resignation from her position with the school, and the USD 431 Board of Education accepted that resignation on Monday night at its regular board meeting.

Johnson was placed on administrative leave from all duties in November. Superintendent Bill Lowry had no comment for the reason she was suspended.

"There was never any criminal investigation," Lowry did say. "This ends her suspension. This ends the investigation."
Johnson was also the physical education teacher for fifth through ninth grade. Lowry said she will have no duties for the district for the remainder of the school year. She will not be returning to her coaching or classroom duties.

Johnson led the Cardinal ladies volleyball team to runners-up in the Class 3 Kansas State volleyball tournament this fall.

In other business, the school board’s Recreation Commission member, Ben Brewer, was reappointed to the Rec for a four-year term. He just completed a four-year term.

Four members of the Roosevelt Elementary School staff were present. They gave a presentation about the use of iPads in the classroom. They said the students liked using the iPads as well as the teachers.

There are no moving parts in an iPad. The students were trained to carry the computers with both hands. Teacher Becky Andereck said the iPad runs for seven hours without charging.

In administrative reports, the board learned:

• School Board President Steven Little was elected to the School for Quality Education board.

• About the current status of school funding from Lowry. He said that in inflation adjust dollars, base state aid has decreased each year since 1992. Lowry added that Governor Sam Brownback is recommending $3,780 for base state aid, which in actual dollars, is similar to base state aid in 1999-2000. He said that it is important to register to vote in elections.
