HOISINGTON — Four individuals have expressed interest in becoming city council members in Ward 4, the Hoisington City Council heard Monday night. They will be interviewed at the regular Oct. 24 council meeting by the council, which meets at 7:30 p.m.
Those candidates are Brian Wilborn, Shannon Stephens, Gary Shook and Ike Penry. The Ward 4 seat has been open since Don Gordon resigned earlier this year.
In other business, the city will provide sleeping bunks for out-of-town EMTs. Technicians are paid volunteers who work 12 hour shifts. City Manager Jonathan Mitchell said several come from out of town.
The EMTs will have access to the bunks, a kitchen and shower facilities.
The council found that the property at 569 W. 3rd was a dangerous and unsafe building. They instructed Mitchell to proceed with a resolution on Oct. 24 notifying the occupants they have 30 days after that date to rectify the issues.
The city passed a new exotic animal ordinance outlawing 28 animals or reptiles within the city. This list includes any poisonous reptile or animal, bison, bobcats, coyotes, crocodiles longer than 30 inches, constrictor snakes longer than six feet, deer, game cocks, ostriches, cougars or mountain lions, raccoons, skunks, tigers and wolves or wolf hybrids.
