ELLINWOOD — The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team competed at the KSHSAA 2A State Forensics Championships held at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita on Saturday, May 4.
Competing as a full sweepstakes team with the maximum number of entries, EHS placed 5th out of 34 schools. Sterling won the tournament, followed by Jetmore-Hodgeman County and Belleville-Republic County.
Eight events from Ellinwood’s roster advanced to the semi-final round, placing in the top twelve in the tournament. Semi-finalists included: Connor Birzer, Extemporaneous Speaking; Jenna Snell, Original Oration; Rachel Schloctermeier, Informative Speaking; Tawny Arndt and Jenna Collins, Duet Acting; Stephanie Troyer, Poetry Interpretation; Hannah Maddy, Humorous Solo Acting; and Shiani Hughes, Serious Solo Acting and Humorous Solo Acting.
Three students advanced to finals, earning medals for their top-six finishes. Maddy and Troyer placed 5th in Humorous Solo Acting and Poetry Interpretation, respectively, and Shiani Hughes placed 6th in Serious Solo Acting.
The students are coached by Julie Ann Jacobs and Angela Petersen.
EHS forensics places at state
